The Sönd guide to party season skin

It’s officially party season! You’ve donned your flashing lights Christmas jumper, the prosecco has been passed around the office for a deskside tipple, and at this point you don’t even want to look at another mince pie.

Do we dare discuss the toll this season all takes upon our skin? We won’t go into too much detail as it will dampen the celebrations, but what we will tell you is a few tips on how to keep yourself looking (relatively) fresh all the way up to January 4th.

Preparation:

As we all know, prevention is better than cure. If you think of Christmas as a marathon, and you hope to cross that finish line in relatively good condition, then you’d best get training!

Eat well

Do your best to eat fresh and healthy food where you can. Packing as many nutrients into your system as possible will fuel your skin and keep it fighting fit. Alcohol depletes antioxidants so stock up in advance!

Sleep

Have an early night where possible, in order to reduce the impact of the inevitable late nights ahead. Poor sleep has a significant impact on the condition of your skin, so stocking up where you can will lessen the impact. Hydrate: drink more water, and prep your skin with plenty hydrating products. If your skin is particularly dehydrated, then lightly exfoliate and use a hydrating mask the evening before an event.

During:

On the day of some celebrations, there are tiny tweaks you can make to ensure you limit the impact that partying will have on your skin.

Hydrate

Drink plenty of water. Not only does this keep you looking great, but it will help you feel much better in the morning. Need we say more?

Supplements

Vitamin C will help your immune system and it’s also an antioxidant, which will help combat those free radical filled canapés and champagne. Silica will also increase the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells, so top up on your intake during the day.

Cleanse and moisturise

Any attempt to take off your makeup before you get into bed will pay dividends in the morning. Not only is it bad for your skin to sleep in your make-up, but waking up with panda eyes does little for anyone’s confidence the morning after! So make sure that you cleanse and moisturise post-party and the day after.

After (Math):

After all the fun is had, it’s important to replenish the moisture and nutrients your skin has lost. While the ‘bad’ food might be tempting, try to stave off loading up on fried carbs and instead top up on juice, grains and veg.

Hydrate

Yep, you guessed it. Drink lots and make sure to use a hydrating moisturiser to combat looking tired and skin dull.

Exercise

We have to be kidding? Nope. Even 20 mins of walking will improve circulation and flush out your toxins. We promise.

Be kind to yourself

Rest if you can and find something that will make you laugh - it boosts the immune system, reduces anxiety and nothing works better as an effortless face work out!
