6 steps to preventing ageing skin

As we grow older, it is natural to begin thinking about aging skin prevention. Find out how to prevent aging skin, and look younger, with our simple six-point guide.

Sun protection

It is never too late to begin protecting your skin from sun damage, and an important aspect of skin care for aging skin is to stay out of strong sunlight whenever possible. As part of your anti-aging skin routine, apply a high protection factor sun cream before going out in sunlight. Invest in a pretty sun hat too - this will shade your face and neck, providing further protection to the delicate skin in these areas.


Sleep is another essential element of your anti-aging skin routine. Make it a priority to relax properly at night. Avoid eating, and drinking tea, coffee, other caffeinated drinks or alcohol too late. Avoid TV, or using other devices with screens, for at least an hour before bedtime. Read a book or magazine instead, or simply listen to calming music. If you can achieve 6-8 hours of quality sleep per night, your skin will thank you every morning.


A further important ingredient in skin care for aging skin is exercise. Even 10-20 minutes per day of gentle activity, such as walking or swimming, is a valuable part of how to prevent aging skin. Exercise improves your circulation, and benefits your mind and your whole body - including your skin.


A good diet is also crucial to aging skin prevention. A “rainbow“ of fruits and vegetables, whole grains and good quality proteins are all essential for helping your skin look younger. Cut down on processed and sugary products, and fill your plate with fresh, natural foods, to nourish your skin from the inside.


Your anti-aging skin routine should always include hydrating your skin from the inside, too. Tap water is fine, or you can drink bottled water if you wish. Treat yourself to a nice re-usable water-bottle, so you can keep track of how much water you drink. Aim for 1.5-2 litres per day.

Skin care routine

Last but not least, it is also vital to care for your skin from the outside, with quality skin care products. Choosing an anti-aging cream can be confusing with so many products on the market.
